Server Rules for retro.pizza: The Director's Cut

  1. No Nazis, no TERFs, no conspiracy bullshit*: No hate speech, no homophobia, no transphobia, no racism, no misogyny, no antisemitism, no Q bullshit. No, anti-hate speech it not itself a kind of hate speech. This is a private social platform run by a queer Leftist and your First Amendment means nothing here.
    • * The fun kinds of conspiracies like cryptids and alien abductions are fine and not bullshit.
  2. Use the Content Warning (CW) tool for sensitive content! This includes:
    • Adult/NSFW content - Let people at office jobs read their feeds at work in peace, they can always bookmark the fun stuff for later.
      • Relatedly, we are not the Shipping Authority here, but if you're posting explicit content with elements that some might find upsetting due to real-life experiences (dubcon/noncon, partner abuse, etc.) please include that in your CW so it can be enjoyed by those who want to see it without unintentionally triggering actual trauma in those who don't.
    • SPOILERS! One of the big advantages Mastodon has over Twitter is the ability to block spoilers so we can talk about The New Thing without spoiling people who haven't seen it yet. Please use it! Use common sense about what constitutes a spoiler (your general opinion doesn't really, your thoughts about That Big Twist absolutely does) and be considerate of others who aren't able to see/read/play things the moment they come out . As a general rule:
      • Protect spoilers for movies until a few weeks after they hit streaming/home rental -- we're still in a pandemic and not everyone can or wants to go to a theater!
      • Protect new weekly show episodes until at least the next episode.
      • Protect full-season dumps like Netflix for a reasonable amount of time depending on the length of the season.
      • Protect any kind of "leaks", including unofficial photos of unannounced toys.
Don't get too worked up about specifics, no one's going to get banned for spoilers unless it's egregious and/or malicious, but as in all things, err on the side of kindness.
    • Politics - People need a place to vent but they also need to be able to take a break from reminders that the sky is falling. I will never ask marginalized people to hide their specific issues from the flatscans, but be mindful of your fellow marginalized people who might need a break from it.
    • Other off-topic posts only need to be tagged if they're likely to be upsetting/traumatic or trigger a common phobia.
  3. I don't believe in putting a blanket ban on illegal content. For example:
    • In many parts of the US and UK, legislators are actively trying to make information about abortion, gender-related care, and LGBTQ+ subjects as a whole "illegal content". Fuck them. That will always be allowed here.
    • I believe it's important to preserve media, and sometimes this means finding ways to make things available that are out-of-print or otherwise of limited availability but still under copyright.
    • I'm not sure that a server that's all glitchpunk and toy collectors is the place for it, but if this happens to be your main server and you'd like the Fediverse to help you identify some Proud Boys in photos you took of a local demonstration, that might technically fall under "doxxing", but I will stand behind you.
But please do not use this server to promote piracy of works where the legal purchase supports the creator (in-print books, recent comics, indie games, etc.), buy or sell illegal substances, scam other users, or post any content that caused harm in its creation or is being used in a way that causes harm (i.e. child sexual abuse materials, revenge porn, gore, etc).
  4. Advertising is only allowed for personal projects (i.e. podcasts, YouTube channels, Twitch streams, personal shops, etc.). It is also ENCOURAGED for personal projects -- show off your stuff! But no referral or sponsor links unless it's directly related to the topic of the server. Do NOT use popular hashtags to get more attention for unrelated posts!
  5. Bots are fine so long as they're contributing something fun to the community. Automated crossposting from Twitter is acceptable so long as you log on here occasionally to see and interact with responses to your posts - otherwise you're just a bot that's not contributing something fun to the community.
  6. The administration and moderators are the final say in any disputes on the site. The administration reserves the right to ban based solely on Edgelord/Channer Vibes.
